Ilse Wallentin House in Vienna

Clients from the public realm have high hopes for BIM, also in Austria. For the Bundesimmobilien gesellschaft, a quasigovernmental company that manages and develops public real estate projects on behalf of the Austrian state since 1992, the Ilse Wallentin House in the west of Vienna was an impor tant pilot project. Designed by SWAP Architektur and Delta Projektconsult as general planners, the new building is located on the campus of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in the quarter of Oberdöbling. It houses, among others, ten seminar rooms for 500 students, a library with 100 reading places and 40 faculty rooms under one roof. The timber construction type was already specified in the 2017 realisation competition. Once completed, the building was awarded the title “first timber university building in Vienna”. The architects followed two aims: to create openings towards the green spaces that the building faces along three sides as extensively as possible and to ensure that the construction grid along the facades and in the interiors is comprehensible to equal degrees. With the exception of the basement level and the core housing the staircase, the shell construction and facade completely consist of prefabricated timber elements.
