Apartment House San Riemo in Munich

 - Barbara Zettel

The colours and structure of the San Riemo apartment building emanate a sense of playful lightness: they include white corrugated metal, mint-coloured aluminium elements and, above the residents café beside the main entrance, a pink awning to provide sun protection. The housing block with 27 apartments and a commercial unit, which summacumfemmer from Leipzig and Julian Greb from Ghent have built in the Munich trade fair town of Riem, is the first housing project by Kooperative Großstadt, which was founded in 2015. The members wanted a building that could accommodate diverse ways of living together, which they described as a "breathing building": the wish was for apartments that would be able to shrink and grow and to adapt continuously to the changing circumstances of the residents' lives. The concrete frame structure is organised on three longitudinal axes: on the facades beams and columns define bays measuring 14m². They are intended for the individual rooms.

Photovoltaic panels are mounted on the south facade. The electricity produced is used directly in the building and must not first be fed into the public grid.
