Courtyard Building in Paris

 - Julia Liese

The four-storey residential building in the interior courtyard of a block border structure in the 12th arrondissement of Paris is based on a study on redensification opportunities. Due to altered building codes and land use plans, the French real estate company Gecina commissioned the architects to study all of their properties with regards to increasing the density of these sites. Among others, MARS Architectes recognised the potential of a site with an existing building from the 1970s on the Avenue de Saint-Mandé, near the Place de la Nation.
