Berlin is growing and, thus, the city's demand for daycare facilities. In order to meet the demand in a quick and cost-efficient way, in 2017 the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing launched the program "Modular Daycare Buildings for Berlin" (Modulare Kita-Bauten für Berlin, Mokib) and advertised two architectural competitions. The Berlin-based architects Kersten + Kopp won the competition for the smaller, suburban building type offering room for 60 to 120 children (Mokib 60 plus). The office of Karlundp from Munich won the competition for the larger daycare facility type for inner city locations suited for 120 to 150 children (Mokib 150 minus).
