Student Housing in Paris

 - Jakob Schoof

Commissioned by Paris Habitat, the French capital city's largest social housing developer, NZI Architectes created 139 urgently needed student housing units on the city's southwestern border. Hardly any aspect of the tripartite building complex is reminiscent of its prehistory: In 1972 OPHVP, the city housing development authority built an office structure here for its own staff. A while later it offered the spaces for rent. A glazed atrium had been once located where today a narrow interior courtyard separates the wings of the building complex. In the southwest, it is connected to a further facility, also operated by Paris Habitat, containing 800 social housing units. The green spaces of the Parc Omnisport Suzanne Lenglen extend behind the complex. Numerous large office slabs are located on the other side of the street.
