Supermarket in Sölden

 - Jakob Schoof

How can supermarkets become more climate-friendly? The Tyrolean family business MPreis found their own answer to this question: In 2012 they opened the first market compliant with the passive house standard. Since then, about a dozen new markets were built in this manner. The cornerstone of this energy strategy includes highly insulated and airtight building envelopes and controlled ventilation with heat recovery. The buildings are heated by utilising the waste heat of compound cooling units required to operate the refrigeration equipment. This heat would otherwise dissipate and remain unused.
