The combined daycare centre Kreuzfeld, about twenty kilometres south of Bregenz, serves as the new urban attractor of the small scale settlement of Altach. The two storey timber building unites kindergarten and early childcare under one roof. The construction and both the exterior and interior surfaces consist of untreated wood. The architects of Innauer Matt placed emphasis on differentiating the design of these surfaces. The siding displays variations in width and being either recessed or projecting from the facade plane. Windows are accentuated by sheet steel frames. Load bearing elements are visually distinguished.
