House 14a near Copenhagen

 - Barbara Zettel

Red exposed masonry brick, a pitched roof, and symmetrically arranged windows: Compared to its neighbours in the villa district of Hellerup in Copenhagen, the 1950s single family residential structure appears restrained to the degree of simplicity. Pihlmann Architects renovated it and adapted the interior organisation to the needs of the client, Marianne Krogh. The renowned Danish art historian desired, among others, open and flowing transitions between spaces. She was also heavily involved in the design process. She and Søren Pihlmann both interpret the renovation as work in progress. They consider it a developmental phase, a collage that reflects the continuous evolution of House 14a.
