The five-storey cooperative housing building in Frankfurt am Main measures a very compact 19 × 10 m. Covering 313 m², the slimness of the plot on the heavily frequented Friedberger Landstrasse is one reason why the attractive site near the old town of Frankfurt has not been previously considered for conventional housing. The highly compact configuration allowed the team of DGJ Architektur to organize nine residential units and a ground floor daycare centre within the building. The core of the apartments is a 2.83 m wide and 9.75 m deep living kitchen, reaching through the entire building. Balconies face the quiet green courtyard in the east. The basic module serves to attach a range of rooms based on a 2.90 × 2.90 m grid. This results in a diverse set of possible apartment types, such as a barrier free two room apartment on the ground floor and differently configured three room apartments. The 85.6 m² units can accommodate apartment types with four to five rooms.
