In cooperation with Tankhouse, a design-oriented project developer, the architects of SO-IL realised an unusual residential building with 18 owner-occupied apartments in New York. The interior courtyard with its organically curved footbridges is as unconventional as the many private open spaces – truly exceptional in the densely developed borough of Brooklyn. Viewed from the exterior, the structure with its setback geometry appears strict. It plays a mediating role between historic terraced houses and highrises surrounded by green spaces in the former industrial area of Gowanus.
