At a first glance, the facade of the Gabriel García Márquez Library resembles origami: Folded areas alternate with vertical, horizontal, and diagonal arrangements of slats. The architects interpret the volume as a stack of books, with the slats as book pages fanned out. Set in front of the glazing, they define the light mood of the interiors, direct views, and serve as glare and sun protection. Funnel-shaped apertures and terraces contrast this image and create an interrelation to the city.
