Daycare Centre in the Marche

 - Peter Popp

A robust structure and short construction time were the main requirements for the new daycare centre in the Italian municipality of Macerata, nearly 50 kilometres south of Ancona. The compact building, designed by BDR Bureau, was erected within only 150 days. It belongs to an initiative aimed at creating educational facilities in a region subject to earthquake risk. For the Turin-based architectural office, the strict specifications were the motivation behind creating a functionally sophisticated and inviting house for about 70 children. The simple geometry conceals an unexpectedly intricate interior spatial organisation.
