Daycare Centre in the Julian Alps

 - Julia Liese

The new daycare centre in the Slovenian community of Bohinjska Bistrica appears as if it had been there all along. The ensemble consisting of three building volumes harmonises with the rural surroundings in the foothills of the Julian Alps. Its deeply drawn pitched roofs and timber roof structures are reminiscent of traditional Slovenian farmhouses and barns. The architect team – a cooperation between the Slovenian Studio Arrea and the Spanish office KAL A – created childproof spaces open for exploration and discovery. The new complex aims to combine many kindergartens distributed across the region into one large facility and, at the same time, increase childcare capacity.
