Nature-oriented construction

The new building was constructed using a timber-frame system. The structure, consisting of a wooden frame and cross-laminated timber, follows the historical architectural language of the existing building while also representing a sustainable, resource-efficient approach. For the building envelope, the designers chose a curtain-type, rear-ventilated facade made of Tonality ceramic.

Ceramics that move

The facade ceramic combine profiled panel elements with approximately 4,000 linear meters of terracotta baguettes. While the relief surfaces create a lively interplay of light and shadow, the baguettes provide semi-transparency and depth. With the “Cream” color, the surface blends harmoniously with the existing building and emphasizes its natural character.

Technology and Sustainability

The single-layer construction of Tonality terracotta ensures low weight, reduces the need for substructures and anchors, and contributes to an efficient facade design. In addition to fire resistance and durability, the surface impresses with its ease of cleaning and resistance to UV radiation and weathering.

Functional, durable and identity-defining

The new town hall complex creates additional jobs, strengthens the town center, and showcases Ofterdingen with modern architecture featuring fine craftsmanship. Old and new come together in a symbiosis that blends tradition and progress.
