Typology: The Changing World of Office Work

Although the image of the office has remained relatively constant over the centuries, with the advent of modern technology, it would now seem to be undergoing a dramatic change. The enormous potential of telecommunications today has led many people to believe that a person's office will soon be wherever he or she happens to be. As a place of communication, collaboration, corporate culture, encounter and personal synergy, however, the office as we know it will retain its validity in the foreseeable future. While the ongoing development of the communications infrastructure (mobile phones, laptops, e-mail, etc.) presents opportunities that would have been inconceivable until recently, the process of change in office practice is far less dramatic.
