Technology: Forty Years of Construction in Detail

We speak of details when we are concerned with a part of a building, an extract, an individual aspect. A detail can manifest itself through form, colour, material or simply surface texture. As a rule, we understand constructional details as occurring where building components are joined - in other words, at edges and abutments. Detail drawings are always somewhat indiscreet. They expose the most intimate parts of a building that are not visible on the surface. Like voyeurs, we study the way they are put together and the underlying formal and constructional intentions.
