This article describes the changes that will take place in staircase planning as a result of the new and completely revised German standard for stairs in buildings (DIN 18065). A brief outline is also given of developments in the field of European standardization, which seems likely to lead to greater regimentation in staircase construction in the future. The article contains quotations and extracts from the new German standard. For its application in the context of building, however, reference should be made to the full original text, which is published by Beuth-Verlag in Berlin.
