Discussion: The sense of detail - 16 statements
A number of well-known architects and engineers (e.g. Tadao Ando, Toyo Ito, Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV and many more) have formulated their ideas on this subject for us. We asked them what significance constructional details have for them in their personal design work, and what developments they foresee in building construction in the coming years. There is a motley selection of views. Some of the contributors are known for the care they take in their detailing; some indeed take great pains to exhibit their details. Others invest the same energy in reducing them as far as possible, to the point where they are scarcely noticeable; while yet others prefer a rougher, more robust approach.
