Most leading manufacturers of timber housing confirm that developments leading to a greater degree of prefabrication, and thus a shorter construction period, would significantly improve the sales of this type of building. Today, the carcass structure of so-called "prefabricated" houses can be erected in an extremely short period, but the subsequent fitting out can easily take a further 4-6 weeks because of the division of work between different trades that are often dependent on each other. The site assembly of complete, large-scale elements that require no further processing is something virtually unknown at present.
