Exceptional architectural solutions can be brought about when aesthetics and technology - taken to the finest level of detail - merge. The theme of DETAIL Prize 2011 is "Aesthetics and Construction". It honours buildings which are characterized to a high degree by well articulated, forward-looking, innovative detailing within an overall design. The winner will be announced at the DETAIL Gala in Munich on January 19, 2011. There were 420 submissions from 30 countries for DETAIL Prize 2011; the five members of the independent jury selected the best projects from them. Three projects were selected as finalists for each of the eight categories. The Special Prizes are dedicated to the materials glass and steel, as well as to categories unrelated to material, such as Interior, Green Architecture and Student Work. In addition, there are two prizes awarded to the construction industry: the Corporate Prize and the Product Prize. All submissions are taken into consideration for the Main Prize. The three buildings chosen as finalists for the Main Prize are: David Chipperfield's adaptation of the Neues Museum in Berlin; Morales Giles Mariscal's Monte Hacho social housing in Ceuta, Spain; and spaceshop architekten's Flury Residence in Deitingen, Switzerland, which was also selected as a finalist for the Green Architecture Prize.
