Discussion: The Reconstruction of Old Buildings in Sofia - Current Problems and Prospects

For 8000 years, the region around Sofia has played an important role on the main transport route between Europe and Asia. Evidence of the first municipal structures predates the Roman invasion. From the time of the industrial revolution up until the Second World War, the development of municipal construction in Sofia differed very little from that of other European cities. In the post-war years, emphasis was placed on urban district centres, and the usual prefabricated concrete housing estates appeared in the 1960s.
