For centuries, the dream form of living has remained remarkably constant: a house by the sea perhaps, yet close to the city - like Calvin Klein's residence on Long Island. For most people, though, dwellings of this kind will probably remain just a dream. There are many different trends in this respect, however, depending on age, sex, lifestyle, social class and background. Age is perhaps the dominant factor. Life in cities, for example, has always been popular with young, single people and couples, whereas the suburbs were traditionally the domain of families and senior citizens.
