Discussion: Architecture of the Future

 - Stephan Trüby

How will the architecture of the future be? In all likelihood, it will continue to be part of the digital age, though in a much more radical form than we have known it hitherto. Architectural institutions have long lost the power to define what architects are practising, it would seem. Today, IT managers think and plan architecturally, and architecture has changed fundamentally in its significance - so much so that even the simple planning and construction of buildings seems likely to be transformed. Three examples of such architectural mutations will be illustrated in the following article: the process of planning and design; thinking in terms of architectural elements; and finally, the relationship of these elements to each other to form a whole.
