Police station in Charleroi

The new police headquarters of the city Charleroi in southern Belgium is located on the site of the former Defeld cavalry barracks on the edge of the city centre. The project was realised by means of a Public Private Partnership (PPP), the overall budget was limited to 75 million Euros from the outset. In 2009 the city launched a bidding competition where teams consisting of architects, specialist planners, developers, financial institutions and facility managers were invited to participate. The teams had to provide comprehensive bids for the project's design, construction and financing, as well as for the building operation costs over a 25-year period. At the end of this time frame the police station will be handed over to the city.
