Technology: Threshold Values - Building without Barriers
A threshold marks a boundary between different realms. Nowhere is the sense of welcoming people and saying goodbye more pronounced than there. An entrance signifies either reception or rejection. Charged with symbolism of this kind, the threshold is a location identified in various cultures with certain rituals. In terms of construction, it usually takes the form of a horizontal strip of wood or stone at the foot of an opening, against which a door closes and which keeps out draughts, insects and water.
