In recent years acrylid solid surfacing materials have become increasingly popular among architects and designers for interior applications. Corian®, introduced in 1967 by DuPont, was the first commercially available product and was initially used in kitchen countertops and in bathrooms. Although nearly as hard as stone, these materials can be processed like wood. Owing to their potential for variety of form and surface, their homogeneous appearance, and their ability to be combined with state-of-the-art lighting technology, these materials make innovative solutions - from fitting out to facades - possible.
