Report: Mobile Spatial and Sound Sculpture

"Sichtung" (Sighting) was the name chosen by architect Hildegard Rasthofer and metalworker Christian Neumaier for their 32.4 m high, 70 t spatial and sound sculpture comprising 13 steel modules, stacked one on top of the other for the first time in the middle of Kiesseen near Reithofen not far from Munich in October 2018. The edges of every cube are 2.4 m long. 156 subtly curving steps lead the visitor to a small, open platform at the top. On the way up, pairs of narrow, full-depth slots only 48 cm wide in each module provide an unobstructed view of the world outside. Each footfall creates sounds, the intensity of which changes depending on movement, vibration, temperature, pressure and the steel stress.
