Waterproof Terrace in the Port Terminal

The terrace is lined with permanently-laid natural stone slabs that have to withstand higher-than-normal public traffic. For the terrace the AquaDrain EK surface drainage system from Gutjahr plus drainage mortar from system partner Tubag were used. The system is capillary passive and prevents water from being transported upwards from the seal and causing efflorescence or moisture stains on the surface. The surface drainage raises the surface completely, so that the drain channels form a defined cavity of over 90 % and the water can drain off. According to the manufacturer, the water drains much faster than with laying on drainage mortar alone without a drainage mat. The rear ventilation allows the entire structure to dry faster, too. Another advantage is the permanently water-permeable mesh fabric.
