Taking place from 05-07 March, Futurebuild 2019 will focus on tackling the biggest challenges impacting the industry and provide visitors with unrivalled insight and hands-on experience around the latest thinking, innovations and products to address these issues.

The packed three-day programme will be developed in conjunction with renowned, industry leading partners, and provide over 500 hours of learning across an inspiring conference programme and 11 seminar streams – all completely free and CPD accredited.

Meeting challenges and making commitments
Central to Futurebuild is the ecobuild conference, which will inspire visitors to take action on the most pressing challenges through insights from leading experts. With an overarching theme of 'Time For Action', the conference sessions will be collaborative forums where visitors will develop plans for implementing change and proposing action for a more sustainable future.

A total of 13 key challenges will be tackled through this programme. These include ‘The Housing Challenge – more than houses’ which will see key speakers such as Jon Sawyer, Director of Housing and Residential Growth at Manchester City Council, explore why there’s a housing crisis in the 21st century. Also of interest to housing association professionals will be The Health and Wellbeing Challenge and The Urban Challenge.

In addition, the Knowledge Forum, a new feature for 2019, will provide deep dive workshops presented by industry-leading partners, academia and professional bodies. The sessions will tackle the biggest immediate issues facing the built environment and will provide practical solutions and guidance for professionals to take back to the office.

On the first day of Futurebuild, the Youth Conference – hosted by Rani King MBE – will kick off in the Knowledge Forum networking space. The conference, which takes place during National Apprenticeship Week, will provide a platform for the professionals of tomorrow to learn more about challenges such as the national housing crisis, lack of affordable housing, the growing problem of homelessness and the skills gap. The LivShare step up home will be introduced at the Youth Conference, before taking centre places in the Buildings Hub.

Future trends and exclusive attractions
More than 500 market-leading brands and organisations from across the globe will be showcasing their innovations and contributing to the extensive knowledge programme across six curated Hubs: Buildings, Interiors, Urban Infrastructure, Materials, Energy and Offsite. Each Hub will include unique features and concentrated education programmes hosted by a sector-specific authority.

In the Buildings Hub, visitors have access to some of the world’s most innovative building systems and technologies. Topics such as building performance in a post-Grenfell world, social value and occupier comfort will be covered in the Buildings Seminar Theatre, while a series of pavilions will showcase global innovation.

The Hub will also be home to the LivShare project, which will see Futurebuild unite material manufacturers and suppliers in order to make a pioneering solution to solving the housing crisis a reality. Led by architect Bill Dunster OBE and supported by ZEDgeneration – a not for profit training initiative encouraging people from all walks of life to build their own homes – the project will enable sixth form students to learn vital construction skills while building affordable, energy-efficient, multi-occupancy homes. A prototype will be displayed at Futurebuild before providing much needed housing for young people.

The Offsite Hub, hosted in partnership with Explore Offsite, is the premier destination for professionals working across the built environment to learn about and experience first-hand the latest opportunities in offsite construction. Four dedicated seminar theatres will be supported by housing partner, The National Housebuilding Council, and will present a programme of masterclasses while a workshop hosted by social enterprise, Help Bristol’s Homeless, will give an insight into its mission to develop container homes for those in need of housing. Complementing this deep learning will be exhibitors including Liskandas, Marley Modular Systems, Hadley Group and Haus Technologies.

Visitors can also find the latest solutions across blue, green, grey and social infrastructure in the Urban Infrastructure Hub. Topics such as placekeeping and urban climate led design will be explored as part of the Hub’s seminar programme, with exhibitors including ACO, Biotecture, Green-Tech, Ronacrete and Wavin.

Across the Hubs, visitors will also have access to a variety of new and expanded pavilions and attractions, including: The City Walk, Made in Britain, Vision @ Futurebuild, the Association of Decentralised Energy (ADE) pavilion, the RIBA Marketplace designed by Gundry + Ducker, and many more.
