Slim Roof with Large Span

Its walls are made of cross-laminated timber, and the characteristic roof structure was realised with structural elements from Kielsteg. The latter consist of top and bottom chords of sawn timber and webs made of plywood or OSB that are curved like a boat keel. This web type is mainly used in structures with large spans as roof and ceiling elements. The wood construction elements have ETA/ETB approval and an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) that makes their CO2 footprint transparent.

In the case of the supermarket in Lerberg, the required roof span of over 38 metres was achieved with just one support axis in the building, despite the high snow loads common in Scandinavia and the green roof. The installed Kielsteg roof elements of type KSE730 are just 73 cm high with a length of almost 20 metres.
