Architekturbild, the European Architectural Photography Prize 2019

The Architekturbild European Architectural Photography Prize 2019 on "Joyful Architecture" has gone to the Munich photographer Dirk Härle for a series of pictures that amaze with their focus on 'the special in seemingly unspectacular situations'. But what does that have to do with "Joyful Architecture"? Well, as the jury chairman Reiner Nagel states, 'The architectural elements are undoubtedly not joyful, but they are for the viewer who looks at our environment with composure and humour."

Along with the first prize the jury awarded two further awards. These went to the Leipzig-based photographer Nikolas Fabian Kammerer and the Berlin photographer duo Alexander Mai and Mikula Platz for their "CPH – Copenhagen’s Playground Heterogeneity" series. As jury member Julia Bargholz commented, "Here the idea of another, possibly more animated situation first arises in the eye of the beholder".

Regarding the photographs submitted by Kammerer, Andreas Langen, another jury member, had the following comments to make: 'Hurray, the pictures rock. Perpendicular lines are for sissies; here everything is all over the place, complete with gaudy colours against cosmic black: Welcome to the universe of infinite fun in architectural structures".
