Inside the glazed wooden extension, the Central Boat Hall is the main exhibition area, and thanks to skilful spatial organisation of space enables objects to be viewed from all angles. Restoration rooms and secondary exhibition areas for workshops are located in the rear part of Navet. These so-called black box rooms can be used in a variety of ways and in contrast to the expressive timber structure of the Central Boat Hall are more neutral in expression.
Diagonally mounted wooden beams in the main hall and on the façade refer back to Norwegian boat-building tradition. A walkway in the structure of the wooden façade rounds off the route taken by visitors through the museum. Panoramic views can also be had from the roof onto Kvadraturen, the city centre of Kristiansand.
