Central Building of the Leuphana University

The building is clad in titanium zinc from Rheinzink. Berlin-based architects rw+ together with Rheinzink and the fabricators developed constructive solutions for the many details. For example, rainwater is cascaded to the outside of the overhanging or steeply inclined facades using specially dimensioned drainage channels. It runs above a lintel to the sides of the windows, then downwards to the next lintel, before being drained off on both sides. It ends at the bottom of the facade, where a concealed channel directs the rainwater onto the university grounds where it seeps away. The facades are clad with 500 mm high and 1500 mm wide tiles. A prefabricated corner profile forms the beginning and end of each row. In this way, ends are created that emphasize the sharp-edged architectural language of the building. The large tiles were indirectly fixed with stainless steel clips and then laid at an angle of 75°. Due to the Prepatina bright-rolled surface quality, over time the material forms a protective patina. www.rheinzink.de
