Fanciful dialogue: The Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp

A video tour provides a first impression of the redesigned spaces at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp (KMSKA). At the hands of Kaan Architecten, the museum has undergone a striking rejuvenation. With a certain finesse, the architects have integrated an additional 2,200 m2 within the existing structure. The new wing devoted to contemporary art comprises four former inner courtyards; it is entirely invisible from the surrounding roads. This makes the changes to the interior that much more distinctive as a fanciful dialogue between old and new. It is yet to be determined when the SMSKA will reopen after being closed for nearly 10 years. However, a little preview is now possible.

An in-depth documentation of this project appears in DETAIL 6.2021.
