Masonry Breaks Sound

In Ingolstadt, nbundm Architekten have converted an 85-metre-long warehouse into a cultural centre for a variety of uses, with a concert hall, rehearsal rooms, bars as well as an office, skate park and trend sports hall with a bouldering area. The structural requirements for load-bearing capacity and sound and fire protection, but also the desired aesthetics and a certain robustness are met by KS-Original sand-lime bricks. The white brickwork zones the hall and harmonises with the existing building fabric. Ornamental friezes in the event hall enhance both the acoustics and appearance, with the sand-lime bricks, which are rotated by the width of a folding rule, standing out and thus breaking up the sound. Further measures to improve the room acoustics were unnecessary.
