Off on holiday: Summer residence by Kapsimalis Architects

The summer house by Kapsimalis Architects seems to have been purposely created with dream vacations in mind. Located outside the historical village of Pyrgos on the Greek holiday island of Santorini, it is surrounded by vineyards and offers magnificent views of the Aegean Sea.

Making the impression of a monolithic rock, the building seems an integral part of the island landscape, thanks also to the retaining walls that mark the outer perimeter of the property, forming a continual transition to the surrounding rocky terrain. At the same time its outer facades have an earthy hue that harmonises with the natural surroundings.

The design of the new building makes reference not only to traditional vaulted roofs and the old fortification towers of the island but also to building motifs of the Modernist style.

The monumental house consists of three individual volumes linked together by various passages. If required, the building can be divided into three separate houses, each with its own private outdoor space. A large dining room and a kitchen are located on the ground floor and quieter rooms are placed upstairs.
