Thermal Insulation Made of Foam Glass

In a new development area in Bonn’s Geislar-West district, the Cologne-based office Rheintreuearchitekten Koch / Graffelder realised a timber-frame daycare centre, placing a particular emphasis on sustainable and child-friendly building design. The defined spatial sequences of the individual groups were adopted as a stylistic device and rendered as architecturally readable, individual houses. The daycare centre has been realised as a KfW Energy Efficiency House 55 according to the current German Energy Saving Regulation (EnEV). The T3+ insulation material from Deutsche Foamglas in the roof construction contributes to energy efficiency as well as to a goodindoor climate. With a value of λ_D = 0,036 W/mK, the foam-glass insulation panels provide high and constant thermal protection. More than 60 % of the insulation material consists of recycled glass as well as natural raw materials such as sand, dolomite and limestone. According to the manufacturer, the product meets the high structural requirements thanks to its homogeneous, hermetically-sealed cell structure. It also contributes to a healthy indoor climate in the daycare centre.
