The prefabricated ­exterior walls are insulated with hemp-lime totalling 360 mm in thickness. The exterior received a lime render finish layer. The interiors feature stiffening diagonal siding.
The large common terrace extends above the rooftop floor of the neighbouring existing building. The roof extension is a component of the overall project.
The kitchen unit consists of stainless steel. Residents can expand it by use of standard elements. A curtain separates the sleeping alcove from the living and dining area.
The winter gardens facing the building courtyard are unheated. The timber structure is painted in dark red and is the model for the colour and construction of the new rooftop level.
The ceiling beams inside the house span no more than 2.40 m. It became possible to use sawn lumber to build them. Infrared ­radiant panels mounted to their undersides ­provide heating.
The new rooftop addition adopts the facade arrangement of the existing floors. It features a lightweight and extensively prefabricated timber construction.
The three existing apartments were also remodelled. They received larger bathrooms and kitchens and, decades after being first occupied, a central heating system.
