The industrial hall formerly owned by the French railway service is now part of a museum complex. In the remodelled hall, new regional construction materials are developed.
What had been the old exterior wall has now become a new interior wall. This is revealed by the painted finish and the render that both correspond to the outer facade design.
Damaged roof tiles above the hall were cut into strips and decoratively embedded in the terrazzo flooring. Others were crushed into brick dust and added to the wall render.
Loam is scarce in the region surrounding Arles. This is why the walls consist of rubble, lime, sand, and clay. The wall render even contains milled sunflower stalks.
The main facade is aptly oriented towards Keplerstrasse. The former entrance is still in use and accesses the ground floor space with the event room and an exhibition on the architectural history of the building.
