Resembling a bridge, the scaly armour of the UCCA Clay Museum spans across the passageways to the neighbouring buildings. Where this structure touches the ground, Kengo Kuma & Associates arranged shallow water basins.
The volume comprises 730 beds and is structured into eight inter connected houses. Pergolas, trees, and roof terraces accentuate its courtyards.
The room modules are stacked on top of the timber frame of the ground floor volume. The V-shaped columns consisting of beech plywood are protected by a double-skin ­facade.
The L-shaped plan of the pharmaceutical company office tract frames a flower meadow that transitions into the lush green of the ­interior courtyard.
