The vaulted cellar of the Stone House was revealed during a structural engineering survey for the competition. The cellar was partially excavated. Students of HFT Stuttgart built a new rammed earth floor in this area in the course of a workshop.
Beneath the gridded glulam roof structure, fish shops and restaurants occupy 12 000 m² of floor space.
With plenty of wood in the interiors, natural colours, and greened courtyards, Herzog & de Meuron establish a warm and comforting environment.
