As a masterpiece of abstraction, an island kitchen unit made from double-powdercoated stainless steel forms the visual centrepiece of a Parisian apartment. The sink, cooker and worktop “vanish” into a table-like object. Here, metalwork company Joosten Projecten, responsible for custom fabrication, delivered a subtle and ingenious tour de force. Based on the design principles used for aircraft wings, the “invisible kitchen” relies on a sophisticated internal rib system. The high-precision solutions needed for many parts of the assembly due to the minimal material thicknesses were repeatedly tested on prototypes.
