The High-rise Building "Zur Palme" in Zurich
This high-rise building, in its overall design and proportions, must be understood within the context of a concept that, in the course of the planned and inevitably necessary expansion of Zurich's city centre, will gradually replace the existing residential and mixed-use buildings with purely commercial districts. The planning of this building (from around 1955 onwards) was based on fundamental considerations regarding whether this inexorable transformation of the building zones adjoining the city centre could not be guided from the outset in a way that would best meet future usage requirements and urban planning needs.
