Resembling a bridge, the scaly armour of the UCCA Clay Museum spans across the passageways to the neighbouring buildings. Where this structure touches the ground, Kengo Kuma & Associates arranged shallow water basins.
At 253 m high, the building is average height for New York. Being located in the historic Tribeca district, where only six storeys are the norm, the tower seems extremely exposed.
The volume comprises 730 beds and is structured into eight inter connected houses. Pergolas, trees, and roof terraces accentuate its courtyards.
By the end of 2023, a new residential and living space will have been created in Hamburg’s HafenCity, in an exceptional location right on the banks of the River Elbe.
