A construction maintenance commission was created in Hellerau after the German Unification in order to control whether new proposed constructions – like this Atelier building - were compatible with the existing built structure. It was attempted to coordinate the advantages of a massive construction system of plywood elements with a simple concept; the Atelier acting as the basis for further examinations and projects. Subsequent to the development of the massive construction techniques; heat treatment, enhancement of impermeability, and textile reinforcement of the timber members is to be considered.
