The relationship between architects and engineers is often charged with tension. Since the middle of the 18th century, the two professions have shared the task of planning buildings, a task which had formerly been the responsability of the master builder alone. All too often, the two sides feel themselves reciprocally misunderstood or restricted in the exercise of thier creativity and freedom of action (see the interview with Jörg Schlaich). The two professions are too different in their training and approach.
