Blumen Primary School and Bernhard Rose School in Berlin

The two school buildings were erected in a panel-form of construction in 1965/66 during the period of Communist rule in East Germany. While the structures and the distinguishing features of the schools have been retained, new facades were applied to the long fronts, consisting of anodized aluminium sections in various colours over a layer of thermal insulation. The classroom divisions are rhythmically marked by elements with broader strip spacings. A composite thermal insulation system was fixed to the end faces, which were finished with rendering. The high insulation value of the new facades meant that the measures were eligible for EU support.
