Bringing about - and materializing - form at the transition from computer-­aided to computational design

Computational design opens the door to many possibilities for the next generation of architects. It contrasts the ever more complex requirements at the beginning of an integrative draft approach. It also makes possible at the same time a genuine interdisciplinary practice and the repositioning of architects at the centre of design, planning and construction activities. Computational design does not stop the learning of new technical capabilities rather it demands a rethinking of the many deeply ingrained architectural conventions. For practical purposes, teaching and research it is at the same time a chance and an enormous challenge.
