Building with the Context - Split Identities as Design Concept

Before a building can be renovated the pros and cons of its type must be understood. This article explains the problems and characteristics of Wilhelminian, interwar years, post-war years and the prosperous years of building. Social and economical events in the specific eras determined the varying construction styles. For each of these four periods the author cites the most important building examples and dissects the lessons learned in a detailed presentation of the individual construction methods.
