Changeable living space: Hotel room by concrete

In times like these, with urban living space becoming more and more scarce, the borders between private life and work blurring and mobility increasing dramatically, the ZOKU Loft offers a solution to these particular conditions. As a home-office hybrid, the hotel room can be occupied for one night or even up to three months. It serves travellers as a temporary second home, but has all the amenities of a hotel. Over an area measuring just 25 m², concrete have created a flexible room that can be adapted to residents’ particular needs by means of mobile furnishings. The heart of the space is a table for four which can be used for working, dining or simply hanging out. Furthermore, a fully equipped kitchen and sufficient storage space are integrated into the interior. A raised bedroom area can be reached via a retractable stairway. During the day, wooden slats separate the bedroom from the rest of the space, transforming the main space into an office and living room.  With the ZOKU Loft, the architects have provided a contemporary, innovative solution that combines minimal living space with a great degree of comfort and flexibility. The social aspects have not been forgotten: along with the creation of the changeable hotel room, the project also aims to promote social interaction among residents by offering a variety of communal spaces. It remains to be seen whether this concept will work: the international project will be inaugurated in Amsterdam in autumn 2015 with the first hotel of its kind.
